artist statement

Frances Russell is interested in the intersection between installation, textiles, and printmaking. Originally from Dallas, TX, she pursued her BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design where she studied fibers and art history.

Her work uses the idea of cellular communities and anthropomorphic piles of dirt and seed to communicate the transformation of a home or an individual’s ever-changing environment. Frances has helped artists such as Lesley Dill, Nene Humphrey, Jason Hackenwerth, and Jason Middlebrook create and install their own personal shows. She is now continuing her studio practice back in Dallas with her loom named Sigourney.
